Sony MDR-ZX110AP: Review

The Sony MDR-ZX110AP is certainly among the best cheap headphones on the market. Despite their low price, they offer a good-quality sound with low enough present and comfort of use more than acceptable.

It is really a pleasure to listen to those of us who love good music wherever we want and in complete freedom. For this reason, the Sony MDR-ZX110AP certainly represents a good starting point, especially for those who want to spend very little.

These cheap music headphones are sold in two versions:

  • Sony MDR-ZX110AP: they have an omnidirectional integrated microphone with Electret condenser and remote control for quick controls.
  • Sony MDR-ZX110: they are identical to the first but do not have the integrated microphone and remote control.

Sony MDR-ZX110AP – Packaging, Design, and Materials

Our review begins as always from the contents of the packaging of these headphones. Inside we find only the instruction manual and the warranty, but considering the price required for the purchase of this Sony MDR-ZX110AP, we could certainly not wait any longer.

Sony MDR-ZX110AP

The presence of a 3.5 to 6.3 mm jack adapter would have been welcome. The headphones are of the supraural type, made entirely of shock-resistant plastic material of good quality. We did not like some crunches during some movements, and we noticed a good resistance to these plastics.

The faux leather covering the earcup instead is rather soft, allowing you to wear the Sony MDR-ZX110AP for a fairly long time. Finally, regarding the range of colors available, for the standard model, i.e., the Sony MDR-ZX110 is available in white, black, or pink, while for the model with microphone, or the Sony MDR-ZX110AP, is available only white and black.

Comfort and Ergonomics

The main aspect that characterizes the ergonomic side of the Sony MDR-ZX110AP is undoubtedly the lightness weighs only 120 grams and does not tire the neck in any way. The upper self-adjusting bow is then quite large and fits well to the shape of the head, although for some, these headphones may be a bit tight since we are talking of On-Ear headphones, then headphones that rest on the ears, also exerting a minimum of pressure on the ears themselves.

The ability to turn and fold the pavilions instead is a cure-all for those who usually wear headphones while traveling, thus allowing them to gain additional valuable space in their luggage. Moreover, the Sony MDR-ZX110AP are very compact headphones and already in itself are not very bulky.

Finally, the cable of these headphones has the classic Y design and is about 120 cm long, a length that could be reduced in case you want to connect them to your desktop PC, significantly limiting your freedom of movement.

Audio Quality

But let’s take a look at some technical features for what concerns the audio sector of these headphones for music. The wide range of frequencies reproducible by both the Sony MDR-ZX110 and the Sony MDR-ZX110AP ranges from 12 Hz to 22,000 Hz, bringing the high and medium sounds discreetly clean manner.

Also, proposing bass is acceptable if you consider that we are talking about really cheap headphones. The two 30 mm neodymium dynamic dome drivers allow a sufficiently full and enveloping dynamic response but do not expect great performance anyway.

Moreover, in these headphones with a closed design, the diaphragm’s sensitivity of 98 dB/mW allows a sound in headphones of good intensity, even if not too high, and for some, it may also below. If you try the Sony MDR-ZX110AP model, specifically designed for use with your smartphone.

We note with pleasure that the Electret omnidirectional condenser microphone clearly reproduces our voice. Simultaneously, the integrated button allows you to answer calls simply, without the need to take off the headphones, interrupting the piece of music until the end of the call, immediately resuming it.

So if you listen to music from your smartphone, we strongly recommend buying the model with a microphone and integrated controls.

Conclusions

Considering all the features present in the Sony MDR-ZX110AP and the absolutely low purchase price, we find it practically impossible not to recommend the purchase. Of course, we are not talking about headphones suitable for professional use or fans of high fidelity.

But the Sony MDR-ZX110AP (or Sony MDR-ZX110) are low-end headphones that offer discreet sound results, ideal for those who want to spend very little but do not want to give up a minimum of quality.

These headphones are also very recommended for those who like to listen to music on the move, thanks to their compactness and the fact that they can be folded down, greatly reducing the bulk for transport.
