Denon AH-D7200 Headphone: Review

The Japanese company launches the new Denon AH-D7200 stereo headphones, an absolute reference product for the group and the entire offer currently on the world market.

This high-quality device shows impeccable construction in every detail and uses materials resulting from recent and advanced technological research.

Denon AH-D7200 Headphone – Design

The construction and finishes of this little jewel are an example of mastery and knowledge of more than one craft; the headphones come with two beautiful earphones in walnut, which give them elegance and style, while the headband is made of aluminum and covered with black leather, soft and comfortable.

The band is connected to the two pavilions with a precisely adjustable joint, which works with ball bearings and has multiple locking points; each point is numbered to find the desired position more easily.

The wooden earphones have a portion of memory foam inside, a material already widely tested in many other fields, such as for mattresses; its use allows exceptional wearability both for comfort and functionality; the memory foam cover is made of a special leather which has been specially produced for this model.

The result is extraordinary; the aesthetics are among the best, both from the point of view of style and from the technological point of view.

The wooden pavilions have fine workmanship and are embellished by the aluminum band’s extension, which covers them throughout the circumference, showing off a profile of great elegance; everything blends perfectly with the black of the skin that covers the headband and the memory foam of the earphones. In a word, these are refined headphones for demanding enthusiasts from every point of view.

But it does not end there; such a well-made product must be complete; the usual thread was certainly not adequate; something was needed up to the situation.

In this sense, Denon has spared no expense and has decided to connect the headphones with the highest quality cable through jacks of fine workmanship. In this way, the cable can also be disconnected and can be folded in a more orderly way, and be replaced in the event of malfunctions.

Features

Denon is a company synonymous with great quality in the audio field. With these headphones, it wanted to give the public the absolute best, especially regarding the substance; in this specific case, aesthetics is the prologue of a rich and involving sound.

The house uses the FreeEdge drivers in these headphones, small speakers that prevent any appreciable distortion. They are mounted on resin supports that reduce vibrations and inside the wooden pavilions with a damping effect.

The FreeEdge drivers have a diameter of 50 mm and consist of a diaphragm made of nano-fibers, rigid and light, a bit like other synthetic materials such as kevlar. In this way, every resonance is averted, as well as every vibration. The soft housing available in the memory foam allows the diaphragm to respond quickly and easily to the input signal.

For those unfamiliar with the terminology, it is good to know that the diaphragm is the moving part of the loudspeaker, that part subject to vibrations induced by the acoustic signal and fundamental for emitting sounds.

Nano-fibers instead need a much more in-depth discussion, but broadly speaking, it can be said that they are very small fibers in diameter in the section and intertwined with each other.

They are of various derivations. Once they constitute the finished material, they make it very thin, robust, and light, able to withstand great stresses without suffering damage or momentary deformations; ideal for a quality case.

Then there is the connection, already mentioned for its aesthetic characteristics; it uses two 3.5 mm jack pins, one for each pavilion, while the other end is entrusted to a 6.3 mm jack.

The cable length is 3 meters. But the real performance is given by the quality of the cable, built-in 7N copper, characterized by particular purity and made specifically for the Denon company and its applications. Thus, the transmission of the signal enjoys a unique perfection and allows the FreeEdge speakers to work in the best way, returning spectacular sound.

From a technical point of view, Denon AH-D7200 headphones have a very wide frequency response that promises an extraordinary extension; it is equal to 5 Hz in the low range and reaches 55 Khz in the high range.

There is talk of values that go well beyond the acoustic spectrum included in the audibility range for the human ear, which goes from 20 Hz to 20 Khz, but gives the device exceptional dynamics, which instead is perceived and leads to a greater appreciation of the musical message.

The impedance is 25 Ohms. It is high and allows a better sound quality in terms of sharpness and timbre; on average, the sensitivity, equal to 105 dB at 1 mW. The weight of the headphones is 385 grams.

Sound Quality

Once all the characteristics of a product manufactured impeccably in every aspect have been listed, all that remains is to try it to enjoy its sound and construction qualities. It is a pair of exceptional headphones, which shows off a tone with few other equals from the first moments.

In all ranges, the reproduction of the instruments is perfect and full of the emotion that each instrument is capable of giving back, and even raising the volume appreciates the desire to keep turning the knob, to appreciate a message that always seems to mean more; the dynamic reserve is huge and deserves amps up to par.

Denon AH-D7200 is truly almost impossible to find a defect, a small problem, but also something that may not please you; Denon has made the center, thanks to the choice to pay no attention to any compromise, not even in the cable and its terminals.

Denon AH-D7200

In short, one cannot speak of personal judgments; if you are looking for the best, Denon AH-D7200 books you, then everyone makes his choices.

PROS:

  • Impeccable construction; object maniacally manufactured in every little detail; not an element out of place, all designed and assembled perfectly and carefully.
  • Incredible cable, perfect as headphones.
  • Perfect tone and sound quality.
  • All in all, low and affordable prices.
CONS:

  • The cons. What criticism to look for these headphones.
  • Considering everything, it is necessary to dig into the sound quality, the only aspect subject to personal opinion; admitting that you may not like it, you can always say that a perfect tone can be heavy for those who love the subwoofer and its exuberance; we pass this criticism for good, but it is still an opinion of someone who loves particularly strong and bright colors.
