Buying Guide

Why is there no sound when I plug in the headphones?

Are you finally ready for your daily workout? Put on the headphones, and … they can’t be heard? Unfortunately, it can happen, but what causes this type of problem? There can be several reasons for not hearing the audio from the headphones anymore.

Very trivially, for example, the headphones could have deteriorated over time or been broken. In these cases, the only thing to do is to take the headphones to a specialized repair center or, if they were under warranty, to the shop where you bought them.

Remember always to check your headphones’ warranty duration to take advantage of a free repair. However, there may be other reasons why the headphones are not heard. Let’s see which ones and how to solve the problem.

What to do?

Unfortunately, almost everyone has plugged in headphones, and … the music doesn’t start! Audio is not heard. These are nasty surprises, especially when you are sure you can listen to your favorite music while playing sports. Don’t worry. If you hear crackling or jerky or absent audio from one side of your headphones, try these simple steps:

  • Make sure the 3.5mm audio jack is fully inserted.
  • Check that the audio source is turned on and working.
  • Try changing the configuration settings if the audio source is a PC or notebook.
  • Try a different audio source.
  • Try another cable.
  • Turn up the volume on the source.
  • Make sure the headphone connector is properly connected.

Compatibility issues

If audio is still not being heard from your headphones, there may be a problem with the microphone, which is unable to capture sound. Then:

  • Ensure the headphone connector is properly connected and the plug is clean and uncluttered.
  • Check that the microphone is not obstructed or covered.
  • Make sure the flat end of the connector is plugged into the headphones.
  • If you’re using headphones with a PC, ensure the computer’s microphone is set to the correct input source.

Don’t forget maintenance.

Headphones are an object of daily use, and we use them for various things: to make phone calls, hear voice messages, listen to the audio of a video, or more simply to brighten up our days with good music. The in-ear headphones, for example, are widely used for physical activity and are easy to carry. We take them everywhere: in the car, in the office, on vacation, or for business and non-business trips.

Have you ever thought about how often we put them in our pockets or bags, or on public transport, such as trains or planes? Remember that the headphones’ proper functioning also depends on how you treat them. So, never forget to take care of it and to do a periodic cleaning.

For the washable components, it will be sufficient to use water and neutral soap. An important recommendation concerns the true wireless earphones (completely wireless), which in recent years are experiencing a strong increase in sales due to their undeniable practicality.

In many cases, these earphones come with cases with a charging function. Here, you must be careful with the charging ports if you don’t want to risk ruining the charging function.

Guarantee

Do you know that, by law, the products you buy (and therefore your headphones too) are guaranteed for two years? So, if, in the last resort, you understand that the malfunction of the headphones, or earphones, depends on a factory defect or the fact that the headphones have broken within two years of purchase, you can go to the retailer and have them for you.

Replace with a new model. Provided that you have treated them according to reason! Always read the guarantee you find inside the package and keep it aside with the receipt certifying the purchase.
